Our translators are the heart of what we do. These highly skilled professionals do not perform straight word for word translations but rather translate the message of your content so that it reads as if it was written by a native speaker.
PSG has developed a 3 step translator vetting process consisting of evaluating our translators qualifications, testing their skills and monitoring their continued performance to ensure our client’s receive only the highest level of quality.
Each translator must meet the following standards in order to apply to be a PSG translator.
In-country native speakers: PSG believes the best translators live in the region in which they are translating content into.
Experience and References: Each translator must have a minimum of 10 years of experience and provide a list of references that we validate.
Education: Every translator in our pool has a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and most have their Master’s and PhD.
Associations: While it is not mandatory we do seek out individuals that are members of the American Translators Association (ATA) and/or International Federation of Translators (FIT).
PSG has developed a technical written test based on the principles of SAEJ 2450 (Quality Metric for Language Translation) that every translator must pass to be allowed in our translator pool. The translators are graded on their chosen translations, punctuation, timeliness and ability to follow explicit instructions. Given the difficulty of this test, only 20% of translators will pass. Incorrect translations, typos or other blatant errors are an automatic failure.
Translators are reviewed and graded after each assignment on a scale of 1 through 5. Formatting issues, late deliveries and not following instructions will negatively affect a translator’s score. Each translator must maintain an average score of at least 4.2 or they will be removed from our translator pool.
Translators are also assessed on a bi-annual basis for accuracy, quality and on-time delivery. PSG will pull a random sample from our translators and have the translations reviewed by a third party to ensure complacency is not setting in.
PSG has modeled our translation workflow based on an ISO 17100 compliant translation process called Translation, Revising & Proofreading. All translation projects must go through this 3-step process to be considered finalized and fit for our clients.
PSG will select only the most qualified and experienced translators who have demonstrated their credentials on a graded test based on the principles of SAEJ 2450 to work on translation projects. The translator will translate the source content’s style, tone, and nuances so it is conveyed accurately in the translated content. All translations are performed in a Computer-Aided Translation (CAT) tool called memoQ. CAT tools are used to supplement the human translation process, but no software (machine translation) is ever used to perform a translation.
ISO 17100 defines revising as the examination of the translated content against the source content for “its suitability for the agreed purpose.” During the revision phase, a second equally qualified translator will review the initial translations for any errors. Their goal is to ensure accuracy and consistency of translations as well as style, tone, and cultural appropriateness.
The final proofread of the translated document is performed by the original translator. During this phase of the translation workflow, the original translator will incorporate any edits from the revising stage and give the content a final proofread in which they specifically check for formatting, grammar, punctuation, and hyphenation. They will also compare the translated file against the original file for aesthetic issues, such as inconsistencies with style, font, or page and bullet numbering.
